Tuttlingen, 21.09.2017: At the Barmherzige Brüder Hospital in Trier (Germany), operations have been performed in one of the most modern surgical suites in Germany since the end of August 2017. This surgical suite was created as part of the reconstruction of the central operating department. The aim of the project was to set up operating rooms that optimally combine innovative medical technology with hygiene requirements and workflow ergonomics in order to meet the current and future needs of modern patient care. The endoscopy specialist and system supplier KARL STORZ has been involved in the project ever since the earliest planning phase in 2012 and was thus able to plan ten new operating rooms together with the hospital and to implement these on schedule. In close collaboration with physicians, medical technicians, architects and the hospital administration, KARL STORZ supervised the project and the commissioning of the networked operating rooms at the end of summer 2017. “We are pleased with the successful completion of the project where we were able to support the customer from the initial planning to the definition of structural and medical technology specifications through to the installation of medical technology, interfaces and integration solutions. We are convinced that this modern and innovative installation will provide physicians with intuitive and high-quality support for the treatment of their patients”, said Rainer Zagst, Head of the Marketing OR1 at KARL STORZ.

To ensure optimal patient care, the surgical suite offers 4K imaging as well as PACS (Picture Archiving and Communication System) and video server networking. The OR1 operating room functionality also includes video networking with “Video over IP” along with comprehensive fiber optic cabling as well as equipment and room control. Furthermore, state-of-the art communication possibilities to the lecture hall, conference rooms or workstations are also provided. Glass walls to uphold the highest hygiene standards round off the overall concept.

In a recent interview with SWR, Sabine Bätzing-Lichtenthäler (SPD), Health Minister of the Rhineland-Palatinate federal state, commented on the completion of the central OR department as follows: “[…] The hospital is one of the most important cornerstones in inpatient care for the entire region and the operating room in particular forms the core of the hospital, which is now equipped with state-of-the-art technology.”
