Tuttlingen, May 12, 2022 – The ground has been broken: After yesterday’s successful groundbreaking ceremony for the new production buildings Take Off (TO) 85 and 87, excavators are rolling. The symbolic construction start was celebrated by the Tuttlingen District Chief Executive Stefan Bär, Tuttlingen Mayor Michael Beck, Neuhausen Mayor Marina Jung, Managing Director Heike Reitze from the take-off industrial park, Vice President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IHK) Schwarzwald-Baar-Heuberg Thomas Butsch, KARL STORZ CEO Karl-Christian Storz, and KARL STORZ Construction Projects Manager Irina Stock. The KARL STORZ expansion at Neuhausen, Germany, thus enters the next stage.

With the extension of the existing building TO 83 well underway, KARL STORZ is now starting construction of the new buildings TO 85 and 87. “The expansion of this location demonstrates our strong commitment to the Tuttlingen region, where we are investing in ultra-modern workplaces for our employees. Due to our sustained international growth and increasing demand, we are already operating at capacity. This construction project in the triple-digit million euro range represents the largest investment in our company’s history.
We are dedicated to manufacturing our products even more efficiently and to being able to deliver them immediately to our partners all over the world”, explained CEO Karl-Christian Storz during the groundbreaking ceremony.

Harmonious integration
The two ultra-modern production buildings will be built with sustainability in mind. For instance, they will feature large-scale photovoltaic systems and energy-efficient insulation. The construction work on the west gate, which started last year, is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2023. This area will be connected to the two new production buildings. “A bridge will directly connect the western end of the Logistics Center to Production”, explains Irina Stock as the Construction Projects Manager. This passage will include a level for transporting products and another level featuring a hallway for employees.

Attractive inside and out
According to current plans, four floors and a total area of 34,000 square meters will be ready for use in late 2024. “Of course, we are in close contact with neighboring companies in the industrial park. It is important to us that everyone involved is considered and informed”, continues Stock. After completion, Optics and Instruments will be located in the ultra-modern building. The biggest investment in the company’s history will not only speed up production processes, however, and employees will also benefit from an innovative work environment. “In this construction phase, a new cafeteria will be built as well. In addition, we are constructing two large, green patios for breaks with that special something”, continues Stock.
