TRIBUTES Honors & Recognition

Karl Storz received numerous honors and awards in recognition of his contributions to medical technology, his close collaboration with the medical community, and his entrepreneurial achievements. These distinctions reflect a lifetime of accomplishments that have had a lasting impact on medical imaging and set new standards in patient care.

1980

In 1980, he was honored with the Prix mondial Nessim Habif de chirurgie for his contributions to the development of endoscopic instruments.

His entrepreneurial and personal achievements were recognized in 1995 with the Cross of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany.

  • 1949 - Master Craftsman's Certificate (Reutlingen Chamber of Trade).
  • 1972 - In honor of Karl Storz in recognition and with appreciation for his genius efforts to advance Urological Endoscopy, UCLA School of Medicine, Los Angeles, USA.
  • 1972 - In honor of Karl Storz in recognition and appreciation of his outstanding and meritorious contribution in the field of endoscopic surgery, Medical Centers, Los Angeles, USA.
  • 1980 - Prix mondial Nessim Habif de chirurgie, awarded by the Medical Faculty of the University of Geneva for his work and the development of endoscopic examination devices, Geneva, Switzerland.
  • 1985 - Honorary member of the Max Nitze Museum for Medical Endoscopy, Stuttgart, Germany.
  • 1985 - Honorary doctorate (Dr. med. honoris causa) granted by the Human Medicine Department of Philipps University, Marburg, Germany.
  • 1985 - Plate of honor of the city of Tuttlingen, Tuttlingen, Germany.
  • 1987 - Appointment as honorary member of the International Society of Urological Endoscopy.
  • 1988 - Presentation of the "Health Science Advancement Award" in recognition of special service to urology by the American Urological Association.
  • 1989 - Awarded the Golden Master Craftsman’s Certificate (Constance Chamber of Trade).
  • 1990/91 - Award of the Medal of Merit in Gold of the German Association of Otorhinolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery, Göttingen, Germany.
  • 1992 - Award of the Medal for Outstanding Service to the Economy of Baden-Württemberg by the Minister for Economic Affairs Schaufler, Stuttgart, Germany
  • 1993 - Presentation of the "Kannitverstan" gift of honor, the highest award currently available from the city of Tuttlingen, Germany.
  • 1995 - Cross of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany.
  • 1995 - Presentation of the "Pioneer in Endoscopy Award" by the Society of American Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES), USA.
