Tuttlingen – The new Innersight3D software from KARL STORZ is now available on the European CE market and represents a significant advance in the visualization of relevant anatomical structures. The software can be used to create precise 3D models from CT and MRI images, which can be inspected from all angles before or during surgery. This enables surgeons to grasp the full complexity of a tumor and perform their operations with even greater precision. They also gain comprehensive insight into anatomy, including vascular pathways and surrounding structures.

3D models make all the difference – even for patient communication

Innersight3D offers advanced 3D modeling for preoperative planning and intraoperative support. The interactive 3D models are created from CT and MRI scans of patients which can help surgeons to find critical structures during surgery. The current portfolio includes models for the kidney, lung, liver, colon, and prostate. A key advantage of Innersight3D is its seamless integration into the daily workflow. The service is cost-effective and easily accessible, allowing more surgical teams to benefit from advanced 3D modeling technology. The intuitive user interface allows patient-specific and precise models to be viewed. The interactive 3D models can also be used for effective and transparent patient communication to explain planned procedures, thereby facilitating informed consent and improving patient understanding.

Dr. Ben Challacombe, urologist at Guy’s Hospital in London, said: “The software helps with pre-operative surgery planning and can also be used optimally for training purposes. I have been using the software with great enthusiasm for five years now.” KARL STORZ plans to obtain global approval for Innersight3D and develop further models in the future.

KARL STORZ uses even smarter medical technology

The internationally successful medical technology company KARL STORZ has acquired and integrated the innovative software manufacturer Innersight Labs, headquartered in London, at the end of 2023. The start-up was founded in 2015 by Oxford graduates Lorenz Berger and Eoin Hyde. They were soon joined by Matt Gibb, another former Oxford PhD student. Compared to competing products, Innersight3D can significantly reduce manual effort, lowering the cost per model and time to market. With this acquisition, KARL STORZ strategically expanded its existing portfolio with a product in the field of innovative software solutions. This is another step by the family-owned company to advance laparoscopic and robot-assisted imaging solutions for healthcare.
