Leukoplakia, acetowhite epithelium, punctation, mosaic and atypical vessels are by definition the components of an atypical transformation zone. The expression “Atypical”, however, does not mean that these features are necessarily associated with SIL or AIS since quite frequently they are caused by benign changes such as metaplasia.
