Once the cervix is visualized with a frosted duckbill speculum, the squamo-columnar junction is evaluated by 7- to 10-fold magnification and the presence of leukoplakia (‘white patch’) is excluded. 5% acetic acid is applied, followed by 3% iodine solution. The colposcopic image shows the native cervix.
