CULVER CITY, Carlifornia (October 18, 2005) - KARL STORZ Endoscopy-America, Inc., a leader for 60 years in reusable endoscope technology, is pleased to announce that its RoBi rotating Bipolar Forceps and Scissors have been recognized by the Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons (SLS) as a 2005 Innovation of the Year.
The multifunctional RoBi™ Forceps and Scissors are designed to allow one-handed operation by endoscopic surgeons to perform secure grasping, blunt dissection and bipolar coagulation of tissue between the jaws. Lateral tissue damage and sticking of tissue are minimized during procedures with RoBi™ hand instruments. The fully rotational 360-degree sheath enhances maneuverability during surgical use. RoBi™ Forceps and Scissors also feature a top-mounted 45-degree high-frequency connector pin that leads the cable away from the operative field Three different working lengths are available to suit a range of surgical procedures.
Hand instruments of this type have typically been disposable, significantly increasing procedure costs. Because RoBi™ Forceps and Scissors are completely reusable and autoclavable, the potential cost savings to hospitals also represent a significant benefit.
“By introducing the RoBi™ hand instruments, KARL STORZ now offers a number of advanced features to extend the capabilities of endoscopic surgeons in a number of
specialties,” said Thomas Prescher, Director of Marketing, Gynecology/Video, KARL STORZ. “Among these features are increased maneuverability during minimally invasive surgery, a range of new product functions and increased cost efficiency.”
