Minimally Invasive Cardiac Surgery: New KARL STORZ Trocar System
Minimally invasive cardiac surgery requires special instruments because of the tight anatomy. Standard trocars like those used in laparoscopy can damage the heart or surrounding tissue when they are introduced. The trocar length of 6.5 cm, which is specifically designed for these conditions, allows easy and safe use. Even when the trocar is completely inserted, it is at a safe distance to the heart, thus preventing injury and ensuring safe handling. The insufflation stopcock with LUER Lock connection that is angled 45° permits placing several trocars in adjacent intercostal spaces.
The trocar is available in sizes 6 mm and 11 mm, and it is suitable for use with telescopes of sizes 5 mm and 10 mm. A quick switch between telescope and instrument is made possible by a reducer.
Special features:
- Trocar length of 6.5 cm – specially adapted to the anatomy
- LUER-Lock connector with stopcock for more precise regulation of insufflation
- LUER-Lock connector, angled 45° for better handling
- Sizes 6 mm and 11 mm
- For use with Silicone Leaflet Valve or Reducer
- Autoclavable
