VOICE1® – Turning Words into Action

VOICE1® speech control offers an elegant variant for controlling the OR via SCB® and makes it possible for the user to control devices entirely by his voice. The surgeon is not absolutely reliant on the circulating nurse, even for simple changes in device parameters.

Due to different duties of the circulating nurse, it often occurs that there is a significant time lag until she can react on the surgeon’s demands for changing something. With voice control the OR team does not have to wait for her. Therefore risks for misunderstandings and miscommunication between the sterile team and the circulating nurse can be avoided.

• VOICE1® is a medical grade product.
• The system can be trained for better recognition rates and to fine-tune it for non native speakers.
• Very high recognition rates, even without training: 95% for native speakers.
• Simple command menu trees and small number of defined commands support short learning curves, even for inexperienced users, but does not constrain the experts.
• VOICE1® permits faster navigation due to the possibility of combined directives. “Connected Speech” makes the application more efficient, faster, more ergonomic and user-friendly. Commands can be given in predefined sentences without break, e.g. “VOICE1® camera white balance”
• Two users can operate the VOICE1® speech control at the same time because of the exclusively developed audio system KARL STORZ Audio Connect.
• The surgeon has the full control of the manipulation of device parameters, room functions and communication possibilities, such as the telephone.
• Moreover voice control has the advantage of not requiring the surgeon to look away from operative field.
• Relief of the circulating nurse, thus she can focus on other tasks within the OR. Operating room efficiency should improve.

• Habitual manipulation on touch screen or physical device is still possible.
