KARL STORZ ORchestrion®
Operating rooms are increasingly managed as profit centers. The success of surgery is crucial, but efficiency and optimized profitability are becoming increasingly important as well. Using the KARL STORZ ORchestrion® software solutions for the OR, which are optimized for use with OR1™, makes this balancing act a bit less challenging. Whether you are dealing with scheduling, resource management, or material management – ORchestrion® provides the necessary flow of information between the operating rooms and the hospital information systems.
As a web-based modular system, ORchestrion® supports the value creation chain of the OR at every step: from treatment planning to surgery and patient transport back to the ward.
- With the Resource Planner Module (RPM), the surgeon and anesthesiologist can schedule the patient’s surgery appointment for a time slot with checked and guaranteed resource availability. This check includes the surgeons’ time slots and duty times as well as the availability of mobile devices, instruments, and personnel in order to create the “perfect” surgery appointment. The appointment is confirmed by the surgeon and anesthesiologist or marked with a note about findings that are still needed. If findings are missing, the OR slots that become available are reassigned.
- The Steering and Localization Module combines automated tasks and patient tracking to generate the “current status”. Bottlenecks become immediately noticeable and can be remedied before schedules are delayed. Patients are tracked using small W-LAN tags issued to them at the time of admission. In addition to patient tracking, the employed W-LAN infrastructure allows task assignment to personnel using integrated task management. The ORchestrion® NurseCall-System takes the travel times and competencies of the ward nurses into account.
- ORchestrion® tracks not only patients, but also trays and instruments. RFID tags ensure that the Instruments Management Module records and evaluates the life cycle of instruments. Tray optimization, inventory modification, sterility expiration dates, and an overview of instrument costs per procedure are some of IMM’s advantages that directly help to reduce cost.
With the process-oriented ORchestrion® system, the goals of transparency, return of core competencies, and reduction of transition and idle times are within reach.
