Instrument Set for Video-Assisted Mini-Thoracotomy acc. to GIUDICELLI
The minimally invasive procedure has become increasingly established in thoracic surgery in recent years. Indeed, a large number of operations in thoracic surgery are already being performed thoracoscopically.
However, implementing this procedure more extensively becomes difficult when faced with operations such as lung resections, which by nature cause greater degree of trauma. Similarly, the extraction of the surgical specimen for lobectomies and bilobectomies for instance, presents certain difficulties.
However, implementing this procedure more extensively becomes difficult when faced with operations such as lung resections, which by nature cause greater degree of trauma. Similarly, the extraction of the surgical specimen for lobectomies and bilobectomies for instance, presents certain difficulties.
In such cases, the method of video-assisted mini-thoracotomy can represent a fair compromise between conventional thoracic surgery and surgical thoracoscopy, as long as specially designed instruments are available.
The KARL STORZ instruments for video-assisted mini-thoracotomy fulfill these special requirements as they feature the following characteristics:
Adapted to the bend of the thorax the long instruments are curved and s-shaped which impedes the field of vision as little as possible, allows a good access to the outermost areas of the thoracic cavity and retains the mini-thoracotomy port. Another important characteristic is their medial and non-distal joints which guarantee a widely opening even in narrow areas.
