Endoskopisch assistierte Mikro-Neurochirurgie – EAM
During operative approaches to deeply located intracranial lesions, endoscopes may be employed to assist microsurgical manoeuvres and to control their efficacy. Endoscopes allow clear vision and less traumatic dissection of the deeper sectors of the operative field.
One advantage of endoscopy is a better direct exposure due to a more effective illumination and the enlargement of the endoscopic picture at a high resolution and with a wide field of view. These features make it possible to detect the anatomical details of the lesions to be treated more accurately.
The second advantage is the ability to use the endoscope to investigate regions that cannot be viewed directly with a microscope (dark corners). These can be exposed using endoscopes with different viewing angles and directions, resulting in less manipulation of the nerve structures. This improves neurosurgical procedures particularly at great depth.
For some indications it is necessary to fix the endoscope into the operative field with an appropriate holder. This holder is also part of the set. Additionally the set contains specific designed instruments which are used for surgical manipulation during the procedure like bayonet-shaped bipolar coagulation forceps and bayonet-shaped dissectors and hooks.
