KARL STORZ IMAGE 1 pendulum cameras bring hi-fidelity imaging and unique control capabilites to the O.R.

CULVER CITY, California - KARL STORZ Endoscopy-America, Inc., a leader in medical video imaging technology, is launching its IMAGE 1 Pendulum Camera Heads as a key expansion of its imaging platform for the urology, ENT and OB/GYN markets. Pendulum cameras provide capabilities that support imaging system standardization across a range of specialties.

The IMAGE 1 Pendulum system offers a number of advanced features, including the camera head’s small size and multiple focal lengths. “Weighing less than six ounces, the integrated 3-chip camera head is the smallest, lightest offset coupler camera available,” says Carl Liebert, KARL STORZ‘s group marketing manager. “The result is reduced fatigue and improved control during procedures.” Featuring 14-mm and 16.8-mm focal lengths, the Pendulum cameras address the unique urological, hysteroscopic and sinus endoscopy applications of the device. The camera design also enables both image and telescope rotation without loss of image orientation. Because the system has no viewable eyepiece, 100% of available light enters the camera system, resulting in brighter images and improved documentation of still and moving images, such as those captured using the KARL STORZ AIDA® DVD digital capture device.

Says Liebert, “IMAGE 1 Pendulum camera heads demonstrate our ongoing commitment to protecting our customers’ investment in advanced technology. By ensuring both forward and backward compatibility of additions to the IMAGE 1 platform, we help customers extend the effective life cycle of our products, thereby saving them money in the long run. This also strengthens the rationale for cross-specialty standardization.”

Performance of the Pendulum camera head can be enhanced by various modules from KARL STORZ. These include the Twinvideo Module that provides picture-in-picture display and digital zoom functions. Standard on all IMAGE 1 systems is an Image Processing Module (IPM), which offers digital contrast enhancement and fiberscope filtration. The Digital Signal Processing of IPM optimizes images for rigid, semi-rigid and flexible endoscopes.
