International KARL STORZ amateur soccer tournament 2004
At the first international KARL STORZ indoor soccer tournament in the Mühlau sports hall on March 27, 2004, the Tuttlingen-based teams really did show their guests who was boss! Teams from the company's headquarters in Tuttlingen not only came first, second and third but also took 19th and last place.
It was the well-known local 'hero' – Hannes Schneider – who managed to secure a 1:0 victory for the "Moccacinos" in the final by scoring the winning goal 10 seconds before the end of the match against the "Scharfe Hüpfer", a team made up of production staff. The "Moccacinos" thus became the first winners of the new challenge cup. They were additionally presented the actual trophy by Karl-Christian Storz, Klaus Renner and Nader Hassanzadeh at an awards ceremony.
There were trophies as well for the teams which came second and third and for the team which came last, the "Lattenknaller", which was also made up of staff from production. The other teams each received a set of KARL STORZ towels before they headed off to the foyer for a special players' dinner sponsored by the company.
The team made up of sales representatives for Germany were able to secure third place. Following an interlude during which the TV Nendingen rope skipping group performed, they beat the best non-local team, Schott Mainz, 4:3 (2:2) in the play-off on penalties. The referees, Andreas and Joachim Patzak, Anton Leibinger and Wolfgang Haunschild, who was also responsible for managing the tournament together with Frank Eiberle, successfully ensured that the whole event was characterized by fair play.
All but one of the teams, some of whom had traveled a long way, came from Germany, Italy and Switzerland, turning the tournament in the Mühlau hall into a meeting point for the KARL STORZ subsidiaries.
